Step 1:

Now to start the painting you must prepare your primed canvas on easel. Once your canvas is ready, draw your subject outline on the canvas. In this painting I have used graphite pencil to draw the outline on canvas board. But you can also make an outline of the subject with oil paint (like Burnt Sienna).

Step 2:

Also block the face, eyebrow, nose, ears and lips carefully because we have to maintain a proportion of face .

Now coming to hair, there are multiple combinations of colours to make hair under painting. Here I am using the combination of burnt umber, burnt sienna, raw umber and ivory black to block the hair

Mix the colours on your palette and get a dark value of skin tone based on your reference picture. Start blocking the body parts with dark values and let it become touch dry.

Tip: Always use dark values first to block the canvas.

Step 3:

Start blocking the bedcover using a mixture of raw umber, burnt umber, ivory black and titanium white and a little bit of sap green.

Maintain the colour values, light and shadows throughout the painting based on my reference picture.

Step 4:

Once the whole canvas is blocked and it is touch dry. Add more details layer by layer on the figure. As we are gonna apply more layers of the colour, always maintain the shapes and structure of the subject in each layer. Also add details to folding in the bedcover to make it look more real.

Since the body and bedcover are already blocked with colours. Start blocking the background for which I have mixed the colours viridian hue, Titanium white and ultramarine blue

Tip: Let the painting become touch dry before applying another layer of colours.

Step 5:

Applying more brush strokes and merging the different skin tone to make skin soft. Also adding more details on hairs, face, neck and rest of the body. As an artist I want to add details as much as I can.

Painting the shadows on the body of the subject and bedcover. If the shadows are taken care properly then it will enhance the beauty of the painting more and more.

Step 6:

In this step we give final touch to the painting. Add the highlights on the body of the subject, hairs and bedcover.
You can notice that I have modified the hair of the subject. I have painted it more on the back of the subject, it is just because I did not like the hairs hiding behind her.

  1. I’m impressed, I have to say. Actually rarely do I encounter a blog that’s each educative and entertaining, and let me inform you, you may have hit the nail on the head. Your idea is outstanding; the issue is something that not enough individuals are talking intelligently about. I’m very completely satisfied that I stumbled across this in my seek for one thing relating to this.
